Vacation Stop 4: Zhangjiajie

We're still unsure how to pronounce this city. So don't feel bad if you have no clue either. By this point, we had been traveling for over 3 weeks. We were a bit tired of living out of a suitcase. We had an entire week here, and only two mountains to go see, so we had a ton of downtime which was perfect.

Tianmen Mountain
So Tianmen Mountain normally would be amazing to see! This is where Heaven's Gate is. Which was on my bucketlist to see! But... Bad news...

1. It's under construction. They're building an escalator. Because apparently 999 stairs is too much. Lame.
2. The weather all week: rain. rain. rain. oh guess what? more rain.

So we still went to Tianmen Mountain, but because of the New Year traveling, it was ridiculously crowded. We waited in line for the cable cars for SEVEN HOURS. SEVEN. It was like waiting in line for Splash Mountain, in the middle of July, 3 times, without ever getting on the ride. But I was with such a great group of girls and we had so much fun still! We took turns going in shifts to get McDonalds for lunch, and we found fun games to keep ourselves entertained.
When we finally got on the cable cars, at about 4:00 pm, we were so excited! We got up to the top, and... we were in a cloud. Literally couldn't see 10 feet in front of us. Our life was a joke. We were trying to find the glass walkway still, and after about 30 minutes of wandering we found Wong. Wong was great. He worked on the mountain, and spoke a little English. He escorted us right to the glass walkway, and then he waited for us and met us at the end to escort us back! Us little american girls can't get anywhere without help.
The walkway was fun, but we still couldn't see a thing! But we made the most of our day and still enjoyed it! (:

Zhangjiajie National Park
Otherwise known as the Avatar Mountains because... Well. They look like the mountains in the movie Avatar. And they're absolutely breathtaking.
Monkeys are all over the entrance road. They'll come take food right out of your hand! They're pretty talented too: they can open just about anything. Even if you give them packaged food they'll take it, and they probably open it even faster than I could.
We climbed 2243 stairs to get to the lookout point. And it was 100% worth it. And yes we counted because that is a heck-of-a-lot of stairs.
